Review: Conway the Machine’s New Album 'Won't He Do It' - A Testament to Resilience

Conway the Machine has graced us with another riveting masterpiece – 'Won't He Do It.' It's an album that not only showcases his unparalleled lyrical prowess but also marks a significant evolution in his artistry.

As I dove into the depths of this album, I noticed the distinct improvement in consistency with the individual tracks. Conway has always excelled in narrating his life experiences through his music, but this time, he's delved even deeper into his rapper persona. This new exploration has added a refreshing twist to his usual style, resulting in an aesthetic that is undeniably top-tier, akin to LeBron's dominance on the basketball court.

This latest offering answers many questions about Conway's depth of artistry and self-awareness. Unfortunately, he still faces some skepticism and derision, much of it stemming from his medical conditions and personal life choices. To be more specific, people often mock him for his physical appearance, a result of being shot in the back of the head, and ridicule him for pursuing a rap career in his late thirties.

This album prompted me to reflect on a recurring theme in hip-hop and life in general. It's disheartening how society tends to undermine individuals who are fighting for their survival, showing little empathy for those who have triumphed against the odds. Conway's resilience, however, serves as an inspiration, especially for individuals like myself who can relate to his story.

The disconnect often arises from a lack of personal experience or consideration for situations outside of our own. I believe this album offers an opportunity to broaden our perspectives, particularly on mental health and career progression in the hip-hop industry.

Conway's narrative is a powerful reminder that we, especially black men from impoverished communities, can aspire and achieve whatever we want. However, our self-fulfillment should never be tied to the validation of others. We live in a society where people have been subjugated by fear for generations. When we rise and embrace our inner strength, it can be intimidating to those unfamiliar with such resilience.

The moniker 'The Machine' is fitting for Conway. His consistency and proficiency, despite navigating a life that would break most, could easily depict him as superhuman. Yet, upon closer examination, he represents a narrative shared by many spiritual leaders and prophets who have inspired new ways of thinking among individuals from similar backgrounds.

Many doubted whether Conway would succeed, hence the title 'Won't He Do It.' But time and again, he has proven his critics wrong, a testament to his indomitable spirit and unyielding will. His journey serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, proving that even in the face of adversity, we can rise and thrive, just like Conway the Machine.
