Crafting A Legacy: The Early Days Of My Entrepreneurial Journey

The journey to my first legal entrepreneurial venture didn't begin with Berlin, but with a middle school friend named Brown. This story isn't just about business; it's about lessons learned, the evolution of partnership, and the seeds of ambition that would later flourish.

Brown came into possession of several shirts from a then-unknown brand, AKOO, thanks to his older brother. At the time, AKOO was unfamiliar to us, a brand that hip hop artist T.I. would later popularize. Initially, I was skeptical of the designs, but the prospect of engaging in a legitimate business was irresistible. Transitioning from my informal sales experience and customer service roles, I saw an opportunity to channel my skills into something potentially rewarding. Early on, two critical business principles became evident. First, personal preference is secondary to market demand. Second, the challenge of selling an unknown product is formidable. Despite initial interest, converting that curiosity into sales proved difficult. Brown, on the other hand, had a unique strategy: bundling the shirts with weed, creating an irresistible offer for our target market. This innovative approach taught me the value of bundling, yet it also highlighted the pitfalls of poor financial management. Our joint efforts to sell the remaining shirts were hampered by a saturated market and a reluctance to reinvest in the business, ultimately squandering the opportunity. This experience, however, was not in vain.

Reflecting on these early lessons, I recognized the importance of communication, strategic planning, and financial discipline. This realization set the stage for a more fruitful collaboration when I met Berlin in 2015. Together, we committed to developing his brand and leveraging his music and intellectual property, a venture grounded in the insights gleaned from my initial foray into entrepreneurship.

This narrative isn't just a recount of past endeavors; it's a testament to growth, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of improvement. My journey with Brown laid the groundwork for the partnership with Berlin, transforming early failures into stepping stones for future success.
